We strive to be that community — for our students, our staff, our faculty, and beyond.

The College of Arts & Letters understands that Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion are the absolute bedrock of a liberal arts education. Who we are — as people, as communities, as histories both collective and individual — matters. We cannot create a more just, more beautiful future without investing our attention in the cultivating and celebrating of each individual throughout our college, and we understand the onus upon us to work toward reparation for ways in which institutions of higher education have been discriminatory and non-inclusive in the past.

Our commitment to this work asks us to look everywhere within our purview for opportunities to expand not only our welcome, but our safety nets and our warmth. It’s not enough to signal a commitment to diversity and to underrepresented persons: we need to ensure this commitment is evident in our courses and student experiences, in our faculty and staff policies, and in our college culture.
